Our center completed a study based on urinary infection data collected from 11 hospitals across different regions of Türkiye. The study, titled “Rising antimicrobial resistance in urinary tract infections in Türkiye: an urgent need for update on regional treatment strategies and for enhanced antimicrobial stewardship efforts,” has been published in the journal European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases.
Conducted as a multicenter effort within the scope of the Türkiye Infectious Diseases Report this study analyzed antibiotic resistance data from more than 500,000 pathogens isolated from over 1 million urine cultures. The findings revealed that resistance rates to commonly used antibiotics in empirical treatment have reached concerning levels. The study presents data that can serve as a guide for antibiotic use across different risk groups and geographical regions, where resistance rates vary. It aims to support rational antibiotic use and to promote measures against the development of antibiotic resistance.
