KUISCID researchers published their study “Delayed Hemolytic Anemia After Artemether-Lumefantrine in Plasmodium falciparum Malaria: A Case Report” in International Journal of Infectious Diseases (IJID). Their findings addressed the risk of delayed-onset hemolysis that may develop after the treatment of severe malaria.
The study demonstrates that anemia resulting from the breakdown of red blood cells may develop in some patients days after the completion of treatment. It emphasizes the importance of close post-treatment medical follow-up, particularly for patients who experienced severe disease or have compromised immune systems, even after malaria symptoms have resolved.
Congratulations to our researchers.
