Healthcare Workers in CCHF Endemic Regions: Low Risk, Possible Protective Immunity

Publication / May 11, 2026

The study titled “Assessment of Seroprevalence and Neutralizing Antibodies for Healthcare Worker Protection in a Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Endemic Area” investigated antibody seroprevalence and the presence of neutralizing antibodies among healthcare workers in a region where Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) is endemic. Out of 194 healthcare workers, antibodies were detected in only 4 individuals, all of whom exhibited a neutralizing antibody response. This indicates that protective immunity can develop following asymptomatic infection. The findings reveal that with appropriate infection control measures, nosocomial transmission remains low; however, certain groups, such as laboratory workers, may require further protection.
