Developing effective treatments for viral hemorrhagic fevers, focusing on diseases with high mortality risk such as Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), as well as Ebola, Marburg, and Lassa fever has become critical. Within the scope, a detailed evaluation of antiviral medications, monoclonal antibody therapies, and supportive treatment strategies used in these diseases are of interest. In particular, available evidence on the use of ribavirin in CCHF is widely discussed, highlighting the impact of early initiation of treatment on disease progression.
Addressing to these issues, Koç University–İş Bankası Center for Infectious Diseases Research team published their article “Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers: Therapeutic Trial Advances and Challenges” in Expert Review of Anti-Infective Therapy.
The article also draws attention to the ethical and logistical challenges that complicate the conduct of clinical research in viral hemorrhagic fevers. In this context, the critical role of observational studies and international collaborations in generating reliable data and developing new treatment strategies is emphasized. Türkiye’s strong clinical experience in the field of CCHF is noted as a significant contribution to the global scientific literature.
Congratulations to our researchers.
