The “Klebsiella Symposium”, organized for the first time in our country at an international level, was hosted by KUISCID on May 22. The symposium brought together more than 80 physicians and researchers in the field of Medical and Clinical Microbiology and addressed the public health threats posed by Klebsiella species. Prof. Dr. Adrian Egli, Director of the Institute of Medical Microbiology at the University of Zurich, participated as an invited speaker. Stating that Klebsiella species are among the most risky bacteria globally, Prof. Egli gave a comprehensive speech emphasizing the difficulties seen in diagnostics and related healthcare costs.
KUISCID Director Prof. Dr. Önder Ergönül and Vice Director Prof. Dr. Füsun Can, who organized the symposium, presented KUISCID’s ongoing research data at the symposium. Our researcher Assoc. Prof. Şiran Keske gave a clinical case presentation and Dr. Anı Akpınar, who continues her postdoctoral research at KUISCID, presented their work “Pangenomic profile of the carbapenem-resistant hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae” within a bioinformatics perspective. We would like to thank all the participants.
