KUISCID Vice Director, Prof. Füsun Can was awarded with 2025 Nature MDx Impact Award for her project that aimed the rapid and reliable detection of Klebsiella pneumoniae strains with antibiotic resistance and high pathogenic potential. As part of this recognition, KURIOUS, Koç University’s popular science platform, conducted an interview “The Silent Threat: Antibiotic Resistance.” with Prof. Can.
In the interview, Prof. Füsun Can emphasizes the critical importance of rapid diagnosis, stating:
“Starting the right antibiotic as quickly as possible is the most crucial step in saving a patient’s life.”
She highlights that the spread of highly resistant bacteria such as Klebsiella pneumoniae can only be prevented through fast and accurate diagnostic approaches.
