This unit gives the opportunity to work with high risk pathogens and accreditated by national and internaitonal standards.
We carried out many scientific studies on COVID-19 during the pandemic that affected the whole world. Besides, studies on pathogens such as Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus, various respiratory viruses, Mpox, and West Nile Fever, which are a risk for our country, are also of our research interest.
BSL-3 Laboratory consists of three separate working units with negative pressure. The air flow is directed from the clean area to the internal rooms where infectious agents are produced and studied, thus the contaminated air is kept in the internal rooms and removed from the hospital with filtration systems through a separate ventilation duct.
The laboratory has the necessary culture infrastructure to create and maintain two- and three-dimensional cell cultures and to carry out related experiments. There are imaging systems for visualization and the use of advanced molecular methods such as new generation sequencing and digital PCR are present.
During their work in the BSL-3 laboratory, researchers use fully protected laboratory clothing, PAPR (completely closed battery-powered ventilation system). The BSL-3 laboratory mandatorily follows the international biosafety standards in terms of setup and application procedures. BSL-3 laboratory is certified by an independent international organization.
